Summary

  • replace the V2 MCP numeric timeout with nested timeout.startup and timeout.request budgets
  • allow independent MCP-wide defaults and partial per-server overrides
  • migrate legacy experimental.mcp_timeout and per-server numeric timeouts to timeout.request
  • document milliseconds and the startup/request lifecycle boundary

Semantics

  • startup covers establishing the transport and completing MCP initialization
  • request applies independently to each post-initialization MCP request

This changes only the unreleased V2 configuration contract. The current V1 MCP runtime continues using its existing numeric timeout fields.

Validation

  • bun test test/config from packages/core — 47 passed
  • bun typecheck from packages/core
  • pre-push workspace typecheck — 29 successful
  • git diff --check
